Craft from Kyrgyzstan
Alongside the honey, ULU works with craftswomen in Kyrgyzstan. Their carpets, felt slippers and scarves are available on request.

Aida, Shyrdak Carpets
Aida makes Shyrdak carpets in her small workshop near Bishkek. She learned from her mother, who learned from her mother. The patterns she cuts carry meanings older than writing — symbols for protection, for home, for journeys taken and those yet to come.

Gulnara, Felt Slippers
Gulnara shapes felt into slippers in Naryn Province. Her hands move with a speed that comes only from decades of practice. She has been doing this for forty years, and soon she will pass it on to her daughter.
These are not distant artisans. They are my neighbours. Friends of my family. The reason ULU exists at all.
